Why 25 December is the wrong date to plan around

If your team or client list is only in one country, this is easy. If it spans more than one, planning around Christmas Day itself means gifts arrive late for a large part of Europe.

Gift-giving dates by country

The Netherlands and Belgium put most of the gift-giving weight on Sinterklaas, 5 December, with Christmas itself spread over two days on 25 and 26 December.

Germany and Austria open presents on Heiligabend, the evening of 24 December. Nikolaus on 6 December is a separate, smaller gift moment, sometimes used for an earlier, lighter client touch.

The UK and Ireland open on Christmas morning, with Boxing Day on 26 December.

Work back from the earliest date, not the latest

If a client list includes Dutch and German addresses, 5 December is the date that matters, not 24 December. Planning around the latest date on the list is the single most common reason a corporate gift order ends up rushed.

Add time for personalisation

A laser engraved cork lid is made to order, not picked from stock, so a personalised batch needs a few working days more than an unpersonalised one. For a company-wide order with a different name on every cork, that lead time adds up faster than a single design repeated across the batch.

Add time for December courier volume

December is the busiest month of the year for every courier network in Europe, personal orders included. A batch that would arrive in two days in October can take noticeably longer in the second half of November and through December.

A rough planning timeline

For a company-wide order of 25 or more personalised kits, place the order in the first half of November, in line with our usual cut-off of placing orders above 25 personalised terrariums before 1 December. For a smaller order, the last week of November still leaves margin. Anything ordered in the first week of December should go to a single country with a 24 or 25 December date, not a mixed European list.

Live plants also need a heat pack once nightly temperatures are near or below freezing, which adds a small cost but protects the plants in transit during exactly the weeks a Christmas order is most likely to ship.
